New NG+ modes DO NOT crash Multiplayer Play
« on: »
Finally did a test on trying to do a multiplayer game of a new NG+ mode beyond NG+5 and the results are not good.  The person who creates the game crashes when the other player tries to join.  It appears that the same issue that occurs when the character level goes beyond 100 happens when NG+ levels are added as well.

This should have been the first thing I tested...

What to do, what to do?  Mod is still fun as a single player mod, but was hoping it could be played online as well.

Do you think Runic would even be interested in fixing this issue?

NOT TRUE!

It is something else in my mod that is crashing multiplayer play.  NOT the NG+ mode additions.  I was able to trouble shoot with my brother.  I created a mod with just the NG+ expansion graph.  We were able to join a NG+7 (level 200 dungeons) game together!  So my mod isn't completely broken after all...  More NG+ modes are 100% possible online.

However, I still need to find what is causing this issue. I suspect it is one of the many graphs I recently changed. But I am relieved :)

We were not even able to join with level 1 characters with out the mod crashing.  I have been able to join games before with others.  So some recent changes are the cause.

There is a small chance this is a firewall issue with the person I was testing with.  But I don't have my hopes up on this one.

Firewall issues don't usually crash a client, but just have connection issues.

Will be testing later on without a firewall in place, crossing fingers.

This is good news RnF! Hope you find the root issue/s ;)

Pretty sure I have a general idea of what the issue is.  Hopefully the issue isn't too deep though.

I have been able to narrow down my crashing Mulitplayer issue to my Dungeon changes made for the Mapworks.  Everything else works and allows me to connect to Multiplayer without issues, which is good news.

I know that there is a multiplayer issue with the Endless Dungeon mod that Wayback made that has not been solved yet (think even Salan looked at that one).  So I hope my issue isn't the same thing...

Yea! I fixed my multiplayer bug created from my Mapworks Dungeons changes.  For some reason, if I edit any dungeons with Notepad++ it bugs multiplayer, but they work fine in Single Player.  I made the same changes in GUTS on the dungeons and now they don't crash Multiplayer... no idea on this one haha.

Along the way I found a way to make Map Dungeons scale to NG+ levels, so I could use existing maps and dungeons for all dungeon levels and not need to create a bunch more for each level.  So in the long run, I think things are set up better!

I should be able to add some new dungeons fairly easily as well, maybe some boss specific dungeons instead of random ones :) Lots of potential here.
