Item of Resurrection
« on: »
Is it possible to make an item that allows your character to be resurrected?
That is, I mean, like "Life" in arcade games. If you have this item "Life" - you can rise again, if not - the game is over.

try looking at the revive skills of some monsters

most of them use the HP MOD OVER TIME effect to resurrect dead allies.

maybe you could give the item a 100% chance to cast a skill on death with the hp mod over time effect to revive you.
ive never tested this so you should try

Thanks TwinkleToes.
Well, I just had a thought about it, like "The Back-Up Plan".  :D But I want to realize it as the standard menu of resurrection - you lose the "Life" instead of gold, if the "Life" ended - your character is dead.

Hey Kva,

100% certain that this would work.  Here are several ways to do it:

1)You used the item before you died
2)Another player used the item on you

In the above cases, just have the item set a BOOL stat to 1.  In the resurrect UI use the Resurrect In Place option (which is available in Casual and Normal difficulties) and set it so it only becomes visible when the stat is 1, then have it decrement the stat when you use it.  Or you could use an INT stat and have the item add to it so you could have more than 1 life (arcade-style!) allowing you to resurrect if the INT>0.

3)You can use the Inventory Check logic to confirm the presence of a 'Life' in the player's inventory and then allow or disallow the resurrect UI based on its presence.

Anyways, yes.  Very possible.

Hey gytfunke,

Ok, I get it. It's possible!  :)
But now I'm not sure I can create it.  :D

Want me to do it?

If you give me the item's internal name (item_phoenix_down_resurrect or whatever) I can build it for you.

I'll just be adding a stat then changing your death/resurrect UI.  If you've already made changes to that UI piece, send that to me.

::) Yup, that would be great. But I do not know which mode softcore or **** fits better for this?
My basic idea - Character is mortal, but has a couple lives. I call it mid-core mode. This mode has pluss - you are bound play carefully, but you're not afraid to take risks in some situations. Additional hidden/secret lives stimulates research and accumulation.
If you give me the item's internal name (item_phoenix_down_resurrect or whatever)
item_resurrect sounds fine.  :)

You can share your ideas on how to name this item.  :)
This item is a kind of mechanical or mechano-magical device as "a time machine" or "a backup matrix". Maybe "Time Capsule", "Steam rescuer", "Embermatrix", "Duplicator", "Tech-memowriter", etc.  :)

So, Kva, I have a few questions:

1) What does the player need to do with the item?
  a)Keep it in their inventory?
  b)Use it
     i)Only on themselves?
     ii)Also on allies?
     iii)Only on allies?

2)Where should the player resurrect?
  a)Where they died
  b)Back in town
c)At the entrance of the dungeon

3)What if the player doesn't have a resurrect item?
  a)****!  GAME OVER
  b)Respawn in town
i)If so, is there a penalty?  How much?
  c)Respawn elsewhere

3)What if the player doesn't have a resurrect item?

Another item name idea:

Memento vitae ('remember life'.  a play on the latin phrase 'memento mori', or 'remember death'.  Memento mori was used by the stoic philosophers to summarize the idea of contemplating mortality to live a better life... and so on that note...)
Memento mori
