Man that sucks. What line of industry are you working in?

Edit: I'll do like gyt and share mine.

I'm an IT engineer, working with tier 3 support, but not for long. Our company recently got downsized and I'm one of the heads that needs to go... So I've got to find a new job before the end of January.

Dang.  I second Wolven's inquiry about your profession.  I'll share first so it's not all one-sided.  I'm a nursing student.  I was an English teacher.  Currently working as a receptionist to pay the bills.

Thanks guys. My background is mainly product management/development in consumer goods, but when I shifted industries into telecoms, I got a lot of experience in "operations" (the non-technical side) including customer service.

In my last engagement the company I was with was gearing up for an ISO 9001 certification and I was project-managing that. Then they got a new major investor and that put all the big projects on hold, including mine.  The guys I was working with were kind enough to slide me into a new consultancy contract, but it's a smaller responsibility and therefore smaller pay.  But it's the house payments I gotta worry about.

Anyways I hope we all land nice jobs/extra work soon! :)

Me too, Phanjam!

Sounds like you've got a good deal of experience.  I'm sure you'll find something.

Thanks gyt!  ;D Let's all stay positive.

Last time I was jobless, it was TL1 modding that kept me sane :D

Hello to all!

I just wanted to let you all know that i am still alive :P just really up to my eyeballs at work.

For about 6 months now I've been helping this company that's under receivership to get ready to settle with about 40,000 pension planholders who won't be getting most of their money back.  We finally started operations mid-October and we're seeing about 200 angry people a day.  And I am operating the helpdesk!  No death threats (yet) but I've been getting home really late and really tired.

This'll go on until the end of the year at least, so I really won't be able to put much time into modding for now.  But I will pop in to check on you guys when I can ;D

Gonna take a look now at all the posts I've missed ;)

Hey PJ!  That sounds like some drudgery, but we all gotta do something to pay the bills.  I'm currently freelancing as an online English and French tutor.  It's alright, but I have 0 motivation to mod after working at a computer most of the day.

Have you ever looked at UpWork, the freelancing platform?  Next time you need to find work, it might not be a bad option.  It seems like someone with your qualifications could maybe find something on there.  I got an English tutoring contract with a Chinese company on there... though I must admit it took almost a month of solid proposal writing to land even the one gig I've snagged.  But people say it gets better once you can get some feedback from clients.

Heyya Gyt! Thanks v much for that referral.  Yes I've made an account there, but I'm a little discouraged as all I seem to see are very short-term (and therefore low-paying) engagements  >:( well, maybe I just haven't looked hard enough.  ;)

No, I know what you mean, Phanjam.  There seem to be a lot of small, low-paying gigs.  I haven't a clue, but I'm hoping that making some contacts might lead to better and longer-term work.
