Teams have been created

I've made good progress today. I'm done creating team units for all the classes and I've made all the team spells for all classes.

With all this in place, the teams will now only be able to damage members of the opposing team, for all skills, except for auto attack. I don't know how to make it target a specific unit types yet, or if it's even possible to work around it at all.

Here's how the teams are done:

* First you need to create a "team unit type" for each team. I've made a blue and a red team. (I'll only show code from the blue team)

As you can see, the TARGET_UNITTYPE is set to TLA_TEAM_RED. And the skill's name has the word BLUE in it, so it can be easily added the Team Blue Base Hexhunter.

* Last you also need to create a skill tree over ride for each team, of each class.

As a result you'll have teams with skills which can only damage members of the opposing team.

Slacker pointed out that with this approach you might be stuck playing for the team you choose at character creation. This obvious logic had not occurred to me before that, so I'm trying to think of a way around it.

My initial idea was to use the TRANSFORM effect to change teams, but after some reading I'm not so sure this will work. Any knowledge regarding this or ideas on how to solve team swapping?

Edit:
I made a transform potion using TRANSFORM PERMANENT,  and it worked. I was able to transform a Female Red Hexhunter into a Female Blue Hexhunter, The only problem I could see is that the active weapons disappeared from the left and right hand slots. They where not placed in the inventory, so they get lost forever. Perhaps it's possible to work around this issue.

So this mean that swapping teams is possible, but there needs to be some sort of control or check that you can only transform into the same class, and preferably the same gender.

Edit2:
More problems: Skill points spent on skills pre transformation is eaten. You do not have the skill after transform and no points are returned with RESETSKILLS. This means that in order to transform, weapons in hand must be placed in the inventory and skill points must be returned, BEFORE transformation.

This also applies to the stat points it seems.

NOTE ON USING TARGET UNITTYPE.

it will not work the way you want if you use the method I tried first:

TARGET_UNITTYPE: MONSTER_ELITE

when unittype is:

This will attack any monster due to the inheritance of monster in child.

this ... works because TARGET_ELITE has no inheritance of monster.

just testing it to make sure I am correct, but when i was using MONSTER_ELITE as my target, it would hit anything and wolven showed me one of his his unittypes which the only difference was his blue/red on the bottom.

After our chat on Steam I've done some more test, and it works just fine for me. Proc skills too.

I made a Werewolf a member of Team Blue. With Team Red skills I can only damage the Team Blue monster. Regular monsters are not affected at all by the skill.

I know you have the logic figured out, but I'll post my files here, so you can have a look in case you missed something.
