[IDEA] Additional classes for TLA
« on: »
Let's brainstorm new classes for TLA here.

All I have right now are vague and general ideas, but I'll list them here:

Shaman - Somewhat inspired by the WoW shaman. I want it to use totems and to have healing powers. Lightning and Fire seems like appropriate elements, perhaps Poison too.

SpearDancer - Inspired by the GoT character Oberyn Martell aka the Red Viper. This class use spears, polearms and bolas. A fast and agile DPS class.

Heavy Gunner/Engineer - Cannons and MiniGuns. Heavy armored, high damage support class.

Warlock - Spell caster and summoner. Cripples and corrupts opponents making them weaker, taking more damage, etc. Deals DoT damage and spawns Fire Imps, or similar.

Conjurer - Spell caster and summoner. Inspired by the Conjurer class from Nox and Druids from WoW. I started making this class when GUTS was released, it's was my first attempt at modding and it's far from done, but I want to try and bring it over to TLA. I picture the class as a savage spell caster and fighter, with nature spells and the power to make beasts (spiders and wolves) do it's bidding.

Sage - When I first played Torchlight I fell in love with Syl, so I want to make a Sage class inspired by her.

Hexer - Arch enemy of the Hexhunter. I have just vague ideas here. Keywords: Witch, Crackle Spit, Witch Doctor, Voodoo.

Alchemist - Inspired by the Alchemist in TL1, but not a copy or a port of the original class. Keywords: Potions, Crystals/Ember, Minions.

Pyromancer - classic ranged nuker who has a hard time not lighting themselves on fire if engaged in melee.  All spells should inflict friendly fire, but be very potent.

Demolitionist - Uses explosives such as bombs and 'powder packs' that can be hidden on the battlefield and detonated by bombing/shooting.  Can use a smoke bomb to create chaos or an escape route.

Botanist - Potions and plants are the botanist's specialties.  Can plant vile seeds that will quickly sprout from the ground into carnivorous plants which ambush enemies.  Can imbibe intoxicating brews that grant temporary strength or protection.  Can also throw noxious vials of spores which slowly but surely kill their opponents.

Physician - The physician is able to bring allies back to life and heal the wounded out of combat.  In combat, the physician wields a dagger and pistol with brutal efficiency.  With his dagger he is able to inflict heavy bleeding damage as well as severely debilitate foes.  The pistol is used mostly to maintain some distance between the physician and his enemies.

Valkyrie - The valkyrie wields a spear and lightning magic.  The valkyrie uses her lightning to soften foes from afar.  With her spear she can control melee combat, holding enemies back or skewering them and tossing them to her allies.

The Ember-Touched - A mutant twisted by ember, the body of the Ember-Touched morphs into horrific and potent forms and weapons.  Has different 'forms' which confer strength, speed, inhuman fortitude, regeneration or specialized biological weaponry (not actual shapechanges, just different Unit Themes and perhaps scale changes, though I think a monster model would be awesome, maybe a Mycon Brute).  The Ember-Touched is a melee combatant.

Arcanist
A magic-user who focuses on the deeper secrets of the arcane arts rather than using the elements.  Less a direct damage powerhouse than the Pyromancer, the Arcanist utilizes a skillset that includes powerful control aspects, but relatively long casting times.  The following abilities are some examples:

Reality Distortion: The Arcanist disorients a single target from reality, randomly teleporting them once per 2 seconds for 6 seconds total.

Arcane Barrage:  Fires a salvo of perhaps a dozen bolts of magical energy that hit the first target they encounter.

Energy Burst: Knocks a nearby target far away, dealing moderate damage.

Distortion Mines: Forms several mines at the target location which explode when enemies come near.  Affected enemies are damaged and pulled to the mine's location.

Energy Barrier: Friendly fire possible.  Forms an impenetrable wall of energy around the target, making them immune to damage but unable to act for several seconds.

Enchanter
The Enchanter has the power to exert mind-control or boost allies' competence and courage with their mastery of the magics of illusion and enchantment.

Manifest Will: The Enchanter exerts their power over another, holding them in place and dealing damage while the skill is channeled (up to a maximum of a few seconds).

Dominate:  Wrests control of a summoned unit from its owner.  Permanently.  One dominated subject per Enchanter.

Mirror Image: Create several mirror images of the Enchanter.

Doubt: Causes an enemy to doubt themselves, their cause, everything.  They suffer large penalties to physical damage, mana regen and defensive stats for a short time.

Work's really slow today... so another idea:

The Imperial Deva
Kinda like the Engineer's battle-hardened grandma.  The Deva is one of the Empire's elite, ember-powered super soldiers.  She wades into combat encased in a suit of armor that's as much about offense as defense.  It's joints are powered by hydraulic pistons, the forearms are equipped with flamethrowers and two chain-gun turrets are mounted on the back.

Auto-Turrets: The Deva engages her armor-mounted chain-guns which spray bullets at nearby targets.  Long cooldown.

Fire Wash:  The Deva opens the floodgates on her flamethrowers, burning units in a close cone in front of her for as long as the skill is channeled.  Enemies are set aflame for a few seconds afterwards, too.  The flames knock enemies back slightly.

Power Thrust: The battle-suit's hydraulic legs allow the Deva to rocket forward a few meters, inflicting a stunning blow to the first unit hit.

Power Swing: Hydraulic pistons in the arms help deliver a powerful blow to all within striking distance.

The Gentleman
The Gentleman batters his foes with his fists and natural curmudgeonry.  Some sample skills:

Fisticuffs
Pummel foes continuously with your fists as long as you hold the mouse button.  Chance to stun.  This is the Gentleman's primary damage ability.

Strong Black
Quaff a cuppa.  Increases the Gentleman's attack speed and critical hit chance for a short time.

Glenlivet
The Gentleman imbibes a snort of high-quality single-malt scotch whiskey, gaining a large amount of damage reduction for a short time, but suffering  penalties to critical strike chance and attack speed.

Smoking Pipe
The Gentleman packs his pipe and lights it.  A cloud of heady smoke follows him wherever he goes for the next few seconds, disorienting foes (-crit chance and/or -damage?).  Grants the Gentleman a bonus to dodge.

Concealed Matchlock
The Gentleman surprises his opponent with a shot from a concealed firearm.  The shot has a medium range and inflicts heavy bleeding damage for a short time.

Misanthropy
The Gentleman's cantankerous attitude demoralizes those around him.  All enemies within 8m receive penalties to armor, movement speed and attack speed.
