A doubt about importing Assets
« on: »
Well, guys I'm gonna start making my next Mod this weekend, but I need to ask something kind of important...

My mod is gonna be a new dungeon, and for the enemies and bosses I'm going to use some WoW models.
I'm gonna make it anyway, since I don't have a problem with using other games assets for mods. But maybe some of you do with me publishing that around, so in the name of education I ask if are you ok with me using the project tracker, and publishing it here?

A difficult question. Personally I have no problems with it, but I don't know how to approach this, with copyright laws in mind.  I don't want to any of us to have to deal with any legal issues because of something hosted here. Not even sure which country's laws would apply. Is it where the server is hosted, or where the owner of the domain is located, etc. Maybe it's no problem and falls under "fair use". I have no idea.

I say go ahead and start your project, and if we find that it can get us (me?) in trouble, just take it down.

Edit: I can't see how this will be any different than the mods on Steam which use Diablo 3 assets, such as the Treasure Goblin pet mod.

Yeah, and also every workshop on steam is full of mods with assets from others games (Look for example at Left 4 Dead 2 and the Resident Evil mods or any other Source game)

And by the way, that models is actually from WoW too.

But don't worry, I'm gonna work here, and in case of trouble take it all somewhere else.

Just do your thing and have fun. I don't think there will be any problems with that.  :)

I guess it wouldn't make much difference if you re-texture the models heavily, but maybe every little bit helps :P
