I've been thinking we could perhaps use an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channel for our community. For those who are unfamiliar with how IRC works, I'll try to write up a guide below.

Guide:

In order to chat with your friends on IRC, you need to be on the same IRC network and in the same IRC channel. To join such a network you need an IRC client. There are many clients to choose from, which can be a dedicated program, or a plug-in for your web browser.

I'll describe how to connect to our channel using the HexChat IRC Client. (Another popular IRC client is mIRC, but it's only free for 30 days.)

If you prefer a browser plug-in, try out. CIRC for Chrome, or ChatZilla for Firefox.

1. Download the HexChat Client here:

2. Install the program and launch it.

3. The first thing you'll see is the Network List. Fill in your desired nick names and scroll down until you see the network called: EnterTheGame. Select it and click Connect.

4. Once the connection to the network is established you'll be prompted with a pop-up window, asking you to join a channel. Click the Join This channel option and type in #TorchModders and click OK.

5. You can also join a channel from the main client window with the command: /join #NameOfChannel

There are many configurable options for the client, such as auto joining networks and channels, but I won't go into that now.

Using hexchat, I find the "EnterTheGame" server but when I connect it says...

Connected. Now logging in.
Disconnected (Remote host closed socket)
