So, I think I'm going to start doing video captures with commentary of my modding activities for noobies starting out. It'll be great to be able to not have to give up modding time to write tutorials. That said, all I've found so far is nonfunctional or malware infested screen cap software.
Anyone know of a good, virus-free program?

Well, yes. That works. Thanks TwinkleToes! I just had to look for a youtube tut on how to do it. I guess there's an option I didn't understand that does just this.

EDITED FOR QUALITY CONTROL
Just use the Open Broadcasting Software Kva3imoda recommended. It's excellent.

I use this program: Open Broadcaster Software (https://obsproject.com/)

I will ask my daughter what she uses when she gets home from school.
She uses some program for when she makes speed-draw videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLerFrJcmyE) of her art sessions (speeding-up hours worth of art session into a few minutes of video).
She has it running in the background for like hours at a time, but she says it doesn't slow her machine down and it makes surprisingly small video-capture files.

Forget it! She just told me that it's been hijacking her browser >:(
